The Question of the Langobardian East Frontier

Abstract

In the first part the authors on the basis of the critical analysis of sources and literature state that at least the lower part of the Vipava valley belonged to the Langobardian state, whereas the stronger Slavonic settling of that territory probably took place only during the period of the Frankish Empire. The Slavs were settling the upper part of Posočje during the last third of the 7th and at the beginning of the 8th century; at that tirne, however, that territory was no longer under the authority of the Langobards. In the second part the authors give a survey of the referring Slovene literature.
