The Uncrowned Duke of Carniola - Dr. Ivan Šušteršič

Abstract

The article deals with the key moments in the political career of Ivan Šušteršič (1863-1925), the indisputable leader of the Slovene Catholic Political Party before World War I. He vvas strongly in favor of a general and equal right to vote, and during World War I his followers were not prepared to subordinate the interests of Slovenia to those of Yugoslavia. He represented a minority among his fellow countrymen and his positive efforts were forgotten even by the populist people's party which was, to a large extent, his doing.
