The Slovenes and the Herzegovinian Uprising against the Austro-HungarianMonarchy in 1882
Abstract
Through the newspapers the Slovene public criticized the joint Austro-Hungarian government in Bosnia and Herzegovina because of the economic exploatation and political opression of the population. The Slovene newspapers were emphasizing that the introduction of war footing was only the final reason for uprising against the monarchy. The Slovene newspapers objectivelly informed the Slovene public about the fights against the Austro-Hungarian army, as well as about the points of view concerning the uprising from the middle of January till the end of April. In spite of the rigorous censureship they symphatized with the armed revolt against the occupants and sharply condemned the demands of some German newspapers to punish the rebellions with hanging.
