Ecclesiastically-Political and Culturally-Historical Relations Between Sirmium and Aquileia
Abstract
The author deals with the form and contents of the relations (both influences and direct contacts) between the Christian communities of Aquileia and Sirmium: from the very probable mutual influence already in the 3rd century, over intensive contacts in the time of religious wars in the 4th century, until they were completely severed in the first half of the 5th century when Sirmium waned and its ecclesiastical structures fell to pieces. The influence in the ecclesiastically-political and culturally-historical sphere was reciprocal, but in the whole, however, the Sirmium church gave more to the Aquileia church than got from it.
