Pilgrimage of Ulric II of Celea (Celje) to Compostela to Saint Jacob
Abstract
In the 13th chapter of the chronicle of the Castilla kings there is a written racord on pilgrimage of Ulric II of Celeia to Compostela to Saint Jacob. On Easter day in April 16, 1430, on his way to Santiago he stopped with 60 cavaliers, richly equipped knights at King Juan II of Castilla. King conferred a decoration »collar del escama« on him. From some other document, however, we find out that he stopped at King Alphonse V of Aragon on March 21, who conferred a decoration »amprisiae stolae et jarrae« on him as well. There are preserved data on his borrowing 32.000 Hungarian gold coins from his father Frideric II and 5.000 gold coins from his aunt, Hungarian Queen Barbara, for his »chivalric journey«. There is published a fragment from the chronicle of the Castilla kings in Spanish.
