Abstract

On May 13th, 1942, in Prag by Kobile the Battallion of the Gorjanci was formed. It was made up of three troops. The battallion commander became Franc Pirkovič-Cort and political commander Tone Sušteršič-Tine Železnik. The battallion operated in the territory from the right bank of the Krka river to the ridges of the Gorjanci Highlands and from Podbočje to the Uršna Sela. Frequently it intervened in the battles over the Krka river, in White Carniola and the Croat Žumberak. At the end of May 1942 the battallion formed an extensive liberated territory, where the new peoples democracy began to develop. After the capitulation of Italy the battallion moved to White Carniola, where in Dragatuš on September 28th, 1943, becomes a part of the Fifteenth Brigade.
