Abstract

The plum-people were a periodic group of people, seasonally occupied with plum pealing and drying. Their spare time and working power were used to earn some money to improve the living standard, the agricultural work remaining their main aim and vocation. The plum-activity reaches back to the first decades of the 19th century. From the Gorica Highlands, Soča and Vipava Valley it spread into numerous places of Lower Carniola and into the S'tyrian and Croat places, where it domesticated, extended and strengthened, until, in 1959, it completely died away. The plum processing was one of the most numerously represented additional activity of the vinicultural population. Beside earning some extra money this activity gave also possibilites for social life.
