Survey of the Medieval History of Murska Sobota : Presentation of a New Town Coat-of-Arms

Abstract

On the basis of archive sources the author proves that Murska Sobota (Sobota) — which was named »civitas« already in 1366 — should be given the denominatlon of a town, especially since 1476. In that year Nicolaus de Szechy released Sobota of all the burdens of a villein yoke. The author gives all the possibilities how the coat-of-arm of the Sobota town should look like.
