The Chronicle of the kings of Croatia and Dalmatia (On the origins and the authorship of Croatian redaction of the Chronicle of presbiter of Dioclea)

Abstract

The paper is an attempt to attribute the authorship of well known historiographic text, »The Chronlcle of the kings of Croatia and Dalmatia«, until now usually called »Croatlan redaction of The Chronlcle of presbiter of Dioclea«. Basing his conclusions on thorough analysis of the text and small group of relevant archival data the author attributed the authorship to some »magister Nicolaus de Craina«, who mastered the communal school in the city of Trogir from 1416 and died in 1448. The elements concerned in this paper: historiography in the late medieval cities of Dalmatia and correlated notions of socio-cultural identity.
