Due to the prevailing features in the development of the relationship between the clergy of the Ljubljana Cathedral and the Protestant Reformation movement it is possible to divide this era into three periods. The first, in which the Protestant Reformation viewpoints were spread with a certain degree of restraint, started around mid-thirties of the 16th century. The second is characterised by a clearer standpoint on one and an increase of the influence of Protestant clergymen on the other hand. It started when Primož Trubar arrived at the chapter between 1533 and 1535, and ended with the trial against the Ljubljana reformers in the fall of 1547. There was no marked decline from the "old religion" during the last period between 1543 and roughly 1570, but it was the time of significant moral differences among the clergy.
