Abstract

Slovenes have not yet a detailed survey on Slovene-French connections in the 19th and first decades of the 20th centuries. The author thus summarizes for the first time the writing of French travellers, experts for the Slavic world, and diplomats, about Slovenes in a wide space of time from the 30ies/40ies of the 19th century to the end of World War One. It is evident from the collected materlals there were few experts who knew more about Slovenes: C. Robert, L. Leger, E. Denis, B. Auerbach, while the newspapers includlng »Revue des Deux Mondes« wrote very little about Slovenes. The interest of French diplomacy for the Slovene national movement increased only at the end of the 19th century and partlcularly during World War One and after it.
