Abstract

Numerous singing societies - church, working-class, school, youth, craftsmen, or trade societies - were active in Maribor between 1918 and 1941. Aside from four major ones - the mixed chorus of Glasbena matica with 90 members, the mixed chorus of Maribor with 70 members, and male choruses of Drava and Jadran with 45 members each - there were numerous others as well. Due to different party interests their creative powers did not inspire a sense of unity, which resulted in a number of choruses with few good singers.
