Abstract

Before his arrival in Ljubljana, in the field of linguistics Charles Nodier firmly followed the example of the 18th century linguists, especially that of Court Gebelin. He adapted the system of the primal, mother and secondary languages (premieres langues-meres, langues-meres, langues-meres in langues-filles) je prilagodil jezikom provinces, although his terminology was quite uneven. After the Ljubljana period he abandoned his quasi-etymologies of the latin and roman words originating in the primitive Illyrian language.
