Caranthania between the East and the West. Avars, Bavarians and Lombards in the 8th and 9th Century

Abstract

On the basis of critical sources study the author deals with Caranthania from the time of its origin until 976 and with essential problems of its development, among other the process of ethnogenesis, the problem of polyethnicity, relation to the Avars, Bavarians, Franks, Christianity spreading and ecclesiestical regulation, the country centre and boundaries, the question of Carniola, the loss of autonomous status and subsequent territorial connections.
