Abstract

The philosophers of the Enlightenment aimed at the liberation of methaphysical fears of the human being and proclaimed a new humanism. Janez Žiga Popovič was the first among the Slovenians who transposed on a scientiflc basis the ideas of the Enlightenment in consideration of the national background and of the Slovenian language, followed by other philosophers and intellectuals in the Slovenian part of Carinthia. The ideas of the Enlightenment are also reflected in the poetry of the Bukovnikis (rural poets, among which Michael Andreaš should be mentioned), and also the Slovenian poet Urban Jarnik. The ideas of the French revolution had a strong impact to the socio-ethical aspirations of the Slovenian population of Carinthia and its poetry.
