International transatlantic Migrations through the port of Trieste/Trst in the period 1903-1914

Abstract

The contribution examines the migratory processes through the port of Trieste and the role the latter held within the transatlantic emigration from Eastern and Southeastern Europe. It focuses on the first and the most prominent among the three phases in the history of Trieste as a port of emigration, i.e. the years from 1903 to the middle of 1914, which coincided with the most conspicuous emigration from Austria-Hungary and from Eastern and Southeastern Europe as a whole to the New World.
