The Hat of Archduke Johann

Authors

  • Philipp Wambolt

Abstract

The author, son of the owner of the castle Hmeljnik by Novo mesto, on the basis of autobio-graphical experiences presents his own views and the views of the Austrian noble families, vvith vvhich he vvas socially and by his relatives bound, on national declaration and delimitation. At the same time he points out to obligation of the aristocracy towards the region, where they had their estates and where they lived in. In its own way it defines also the author's attitude as to the national problematics. Wambolt's dynamic career is the integral part of the Austrian war and postwar aristocratic experience and his frequent coming back to his native Hmeljnik, however, not only the integral part of his renewed discovery of the »homeland«, but also of his recognizing the significance of regional cultures and the links among them.
