Counts of Gorica/Gorizia and Lords of Devin/Duino

Abstract

The lords of Devin/Duino have up till now been known in historiography in the first place as great vassals of Aquileian patriarchs. But as one can see from the society in which they moved and from the mentionings in the sources, they also served as ministrants to the counts of Gorica/ Gorizia. An especially significant funetion was carried out by Hugo III of Devin/Duino (1297-1328), who was the head of Gorizia county.
