Resounding of the Myth of America in the Society of Saint Raphael

Abstract

The article deals with the presentations of America, which flourished between Slovene people, based on numerous oral and written testimonies of our emigrants to America. The two extreme views depict America as »Promised Land« and as »Sodom and Gomorrah«, the rest being normally between them. Presented are some such views, mostly those, expressed by the Society of Saint Raphael for (he protection of Slovene emigrants, especially those written in the booklet Izseljencem na pot (To the emigrants on their way) by the prominent Slovene emigration priest Father Kazimir Zakrajšek.
