Theatre Critique in the Newspaper "Carniolia"

Abstract

The authoress deals with a theatre critique in the Ljubljana newspaper Carniolia and finds out that its beginnings with us were as hard as those e.g. in the German speaking territory. Theatre critics based their critques both on experiences and statements of the German enlightener and theatre expert Lessing and on demands of the European Romanticism which was closer to their time. The frequency of theatre critiques depended of course on the theatre production as well. The censorship played here a very important role, because ali contributions, which were supposed to be too severe, were simply forbidden.
