Trade in Carniola in the 18th Century

Abstract

The treatise brings data on merchants in some towns in former Carniola and partly also on management and pecuniary circumstances. On the basis of an incorporation book of a Ljubljana trade company for the period 1717—1814 the author deals with emerging of new merchants and rersearches their descent respectively nationality. Two balances of trade, one from the beginning and one from the end of the century, which are incomplete, contain data on quantities and value of goods traffic (import and export) between the province Carniola and the neighbouring provinces Styria, Carinthia and Coastland.
