Capuchins in Novo mesto

Abstract

Capuchins seriously supported the post-Trident catholic restoration in Slovenia. In 1658 they founded a monastery in Novo mesto, but Joseph II dissolved it in 1786. The preserved monastery chronicle, completed by other sources, describes the activity of Capuchins in the town and its surroundings quite well, in many a thing, however, it throws light also upon rehgious, cultural and economic conditions of this district in those times.
