Relation of Feudal Families in Carniola to the Reformation
Keywords:
Carniola, Reformation, FeudalismAbstract
The author tries to state the reason of Carniolan feudal lords' developing so close contacts with the Reformation. Reformers with Trubar in the front had to find support in the leading social class. The Bled example of Protestantism spreading in the area of dominion of the bishops of Brixen and some Trubar's actions (Slovenian Holy Order, Formula concordiae), however, indicate how disunity concerning the relation towards the Protestant movement arose within the nobility resp. States. A positive relation of feudal lords is demonstrated in their recognition of the language of the subjected people (education) and the Slovene language introducing into the worship of God. Therefore Trubar expressed his benevolence towards feudal lords in his book dedications. The relation of Carniolan feudal lords towards the Reformation, their mode of thinking and wider cultural orientation must have been influenced by the Turkish danger as well.
