Abstract

fter a brief historiography of the events connected with the so-called Hungarian uprise in 1956, the author focuses on the principal moot questions between Yugoslavia and the SovietUnion and their Communist Parties that arose as the result of the Soviet military interventionin Hungary; this chapter has been based on the analysis of two extensive documents. The maincontroversies between the two countries concerned the Soviet reproaches to the Yugoslavgovernment that it had broken the Brioni Agreement, and Yugoslav recriminations that theSoviet military stifling of the Hungarian rebellion had been a serious mistake.
