Abstract

Investigated are basic characteristics, origins, strategies, armament, and military tactics of West European, Byzanti- ne, and Seljuk armies that fought in the First Crusade. The article examines certain similarities, important differen- ces in their military traditions, and interconnection of some elements. More than political factors, the outcomes of battles represent the principal reasons for the success of the First Crusade.
