About the Journal

Bulletin of the Historical Association of Slovenia.
Principal Historic Periodical in Slovenia

Carrying on the tradition of its predecessors whose origin goes as far back as 1846, Zgodovinski časopis (ZČ) has been published in Ljubljana fore over six decades. It publishes research findings on Slovene history and articles about general and specialized questions pertaining to the history of neighboring Central European nations, general history, auxiliary historical disciplines, theory of history, and the teaching of history in schools. It publishes comprehensive treatises as well as short articles, conference papers, and discussional contributions on all historic periods from antiquity to the present; detailed analyses of special disciplines, eras, problems, and areas are published in other periodicals. Contributions in Zgodovinski časopis deal with cultural, political, and economic subjects and with everyday life in the past. Zgodovinski časopis reports on historic conferences, symposia, and activities of historical associations and institutions. It brings critical reviews of new historical publications. Its role of a referential periodical can be justified also by the fact that it publishes Slovene historical bibliographies and presentations of prominent Slovene historians. Its language is easily comprehensible both to professional and to lay readers.

Aside from the regular volumes the editors of Zgodovinski časopis gradually republished all back copies that have been sold out. Thus completed, the volumes are now accessible also to younger generations of historians and to readers interested in historic subjects. Forty-four treatises or collections of papers dealing with different subjects from the Slovene past have so far been published in Zbirka Zgodovinskega časopisa (Historical Review Collection).
