Po natančno odmerjenem strelu Emmericha von Gyujta se je Hugo Poglajen zgrabil za trebuh. Pištola z dolgo, gladko cevjo, ki jo je še trenutek poprej trdno držal v desnici, mu je padla na tla. Opotekel se je in padel v sneg. Polkovnemu zdravniku dr. Rogozinskemu, ki mu je priskočil na pomoč, je tiho zašepetal: "Imre, das habt ich nicht verdient". Zaprl je oči in omedlel. Že čez nekaj ur je zaradi težke rane umrl.
