Abstract

The legal obligation, imposed on Italy by the peace treaty, to carry out a plebiscite in confirmation of the de jure and de facto perfected ineorporation of the Veneto into the Italian state territory, played into the hands of the Italian tendencies in 1866. The voters, including those from the Slovene areas, had no real choice between the one or the other state. The author clucidates this historical event from the legal point of view. — The post-vvar delimitation follovved the existing provincial boundary line of the Veneto. Austria showed no interest in the Slovene area of the Veneto, nor did she propose to Italy an exchange of that region for the Primiero Tyrolean distriet. — The author bases his discussion on sources in the Viennese archives.
